Advanced Biopolymers AS is a Norwegian high tech company
specialising in the production of high quality chitosan with a very
broad range of degrees of acetylation (DA), with focus on chitosan
with DA between 0.25 and 0.60. We use our simple, proprietary,
and patented technology to produce these chitosans, in one step
and with unsurpassed reproducibility.

Chitosan with DA between 0.25 and 0.60 have an increased solubility in water at higher pH-values. Generally, the water solubility of chitosans are determined by pH (protonisation of the amino group), the ionic strength of the solvent and the ions interacting with the chitosan. Traditional commercial chitosans precipitate between pH 6 and 6.5, and are insoluble at physiological pH-values (7.2-7.4). However, our chitosans, characterised by higher DA values are soluble also at physiological pH, (Ref.: Carbohydr. Polym. (1994) 25, 65-70).
